About Me

"Teaching should be such that what is offered is perceived as a valuable gift and not as a hard duty."  -- Albert Einstein

Meet Ms. Garcia

Hi! I’m Ms. Vanessa Garcia, a fourth grade teacher, here at Sam Houston Elementary School.  I am looking forward to a great year with your child.  I received my Baccalaureate’s degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from the University of Texas at Brownsville and a Master’s Degree in Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment from Walden University.

This is my tenth year teaching; however this is my third year in fourth grade.  I taught third grade for seven years and now I have taken the challenge of teaching three tested areas.

I am a single mother of two boys; Derek and Jaden. My hobbies are working out, reading for fun and to educate myself, shopping, and watching shows.

My teaching style is that of a hands-on approach with active learning through the use of cooperative learning, reading and writing work stations, and math rotations.  I am excited to make learning fun for my students this school year! By allowing students to become problem solvers in my classroom, they will be empowered to reach new levels of learning that will enhance their learning skills. Teaching my students to be creative individuals as well as instilling the love of reading in their lives will open new avenues of learning in upcoming grades. I believe in a strong home and school connection and that by working as a team we will help your child be the best he/she can be in fourth grade. I set high expectations from the beginning to instill a lifelong love of reading and learning in my students.  Most importantly, I want to create a safe and respectful environment where your child can feel engaged to learn and encouraged to learn.

They will learn meaningful skills such as learning to work in a group and applying critical thinking, which will encourage children to utilize these skills in real life situations outside the classroom as well.

I truly have a passion for teaching, especially fourth grade!

I am looking forward to getting to know you all…students and parents, and expect to have another fantastic year at Sam Houston Elementary!
